The Value of The Personal Touch

In the age of the internet where everything and anything is available to you at the click of a button, Yvonne shares just how valuable the personal touch is…

” The popularity of distance learning, as a result, is ever on the rise, and now even hypnobirthing and antenatal education can be learnt from the comfort of your own home. Although it’s great that more and more parents now have easier access to such learning, I am still a firm believer in face-to-face courses and support.

Here’s some of the benefits of a face-to-face course that you can’t get from a computer screen, or reading a book by yourself:

1.      You get me!

Who wouldn’t want that? But seriously (cockiness is hardly my forte), my years of training and experience in antenatal education and Positive Birth Preparation, and my personal use of hypnobirthing during both of my labours, means you are getting everything straight from the horse’s mouth. I have also had the pleasure of working with hundreds of parents during pregnancy, which has provided me with so many valuable first-hand skills.

This kind of experience and training enables me to answer any questions you have, and tailor the course to suit your individual journey. It also allows me to ensure that the course stays current and relevant.

I believe in the importance of getting to know my clients and building a relationship with them. This is the most precious time in your life, so I owe it to you to take the time to find out about your hopes and fears. I hope for you to get to know me a little, too, so that you can feel relaxed and comfortable in my company, and unafraid to ask anything, no matter how silly you think it is! My support is ongoing.  I’m like a ‘phone-a-friend’ option when you’re having a wobble, or just have a question.

2.      It’s personalised

To facilitate the individual needs of each group, each of my courses are naturally different. Each group I work with has their own area of interest and focus, and a course is your investment in your pregnancy, birth, and child, so it’s important you get what you need. As such, we will make time beforehand to ensure the course is right for you.

On a Positive Birth Preparation course, the post-hypnotic suggestions (the magic behind hypnosis) are personalised to you, and unique to your own hopes, fears, and birth experience – even in a group setting, your hypnobirthing script will be personalised.

3.      Time set aside

You pay the fee, mark the days in your diary, and have therefore made a promise to yourself to set aside time to focus on the preparation of your birth.

Online or distance learning courses are all well and good, but it’s all too easy to get side-tracked when the thought of a take away and Netflix becomes more appealing, or you decide to come back to it later because you can’t resist the urge to go shopping for a pram or cute baby grows (trust me, I’ve been there).

This reminds me of a fantastic article about the importance of your birth by the lovely Suzy Ashworth.

Setting aside time to focus on your birth can be especially important for second and third time parents, and beyond.  So often, couples I have worked with get to their refresher course post thirty weeks, and realise just how little time they have spent together discussing or considering what’s around the corner. They really appreciate this allocated time together to focus on their new arrival.

Another benefit is the relaxation it provides. Parents often comment that they come away from a session with a sense of calm, and are happy they have taken the time out of their busy lives to just relax.

Couples also comment that their relationships have seen benefits from attending the course, particularly the 1-2-1 courses, and their connection and understanding of one another has grown stronger as a result.

I’m always happy to chat through any questions or concerns you may have and can be contacted at info@nurture4life.co.uk.”
